This casual french dining restaurant is set up affordably to compliment its ‘forefather’ – Millesime at Solaris Dutamas. Its simple, moderately decorated interior gives a hint about its affordability, and knowing where this restaurant precedes further elevates the try-worthiness.

One of the specialties is the unique tarte flambée, which looks like a thin pizza covered with crème fraiche and delectable toppings. Our choice of the night was Avaocado and Crab. It tasted somewhat ‘fishy’, but fortunately there was the crème fraiche to save it. Not sure if I like it very much, but I am sure there must be other toppings that would better suit my tastebud. RM19.50

Grilled D’Agneau Avec Zucchini Parmigiana. It is grilled lamb with baked zucchini with cheese and we absolutely love this! This was on the special menu of the day, I doubt it is available everyday. RM46.50

Here in Petite Millie, they even serve the specialty from southwest of France like the Confit of Chicken Leg. The flavor of herbs and sauces were sealed in the meat at the time of preparation, only to satisfy the hungry men later on. Serve hot with creamy mashed potato, it is a hearty main dish. RM28.50

Every dish comes with a small portion of salad, so to make a healthy diet, as well as save that money for, maybe a dessert.

Overall it is unique and makes enjoying french cuisine somewhat more affordable.

We were there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The restaurant was warm and cosy and the very first thing that struck me was the ingenuous menu designed to resemble the old school exercise books. I was instantly brought back to my primary school time especially when surrounded by all the childhood buddies.

I arrived quite late that evening owing to car problems. Really sorry to have let the others waited and also missed the chance to ‘test’ more food! hehe

Hainanese Chicken Rice

It is a wholesome bowl of Seafood MeeHoon with lots of tomatoes, mushrooms, pickled veges and of course seafood like prawns, fish slices, and fish balls. The broth is flavorful but somehow it lacks the seafood sweetness. And personally, I would love it if they topped it with some fried onions.

Claypot Seafood. Taste fine but relatively forgettable.

I love this creamy red bean soup that was not too sweet, with a tangy hint of mandarin orange peel flavor.

Look closely, this is not your ordinary lemon tea. Too exotic for our liking, we got a replacement for that.

This is for the birthday boy, Victor with our best wishes. Got it from Bisou Bake Shop.

This was a rather busy and eventful day, it seemed like we had been on the haltless move. Lifestyle fair, career fair, and all the walk between MidValley and the adjacent Gardens Mall to get our essentials had basically worn us out. All we could think about is to find a place to sit and eat, but on a Saturday like this, everywhere was fully packed. Opting to avoid the beeline wait, we decided to give this quiet restaurant a shot. We browsed through the menu feeling as if this was an adventure. Unfortunately, this adventure did not quite lead us to an enlightenment.

First we ordered the Ayam Percik rice and was told that it was finished, and then we wanted Tagliatelle but again was made to choose Spaghetti as the former was not available.

The food came, this was the Wild Mushroom Spaghetti that was supposed to be Tagliatelle according to the menu. So much as it did not look very appetizing, it tasted just as normal. The swift serving made me feel that this was a reheated dish. Edible, partly because the ingredients were still quite fresh.

Poached Salmon. The Salmon was super puny and the whole dish was somehow plain. If this was an attempt to emulate fine-dining, the flavor had got ample space to improve.

Had the price not been so expensive, I would not have expected so much of the quality. In another word, it is over-valued.

Even if you have tried MOW Hokkaido Milk Vanilla ice cream and agree with me that you absolutely love it, there is still another perk for reading this post. Because you are going to save RM2 for each and every MOW ice cream that you purchase in Shojikoya @ Citta Mall, Ara Damansara. But for those who have not tasted it, do not miss this out! Produced by Morinaga company, it is made of Hokkaido cow’s milk and taste exceptionally delicious! The texture is so smooth, you will not find crunchy ice flakes getting in the way. The normal retail price is RM6.90, but you can get it for RM4.90 at Citta Mall as Shojikoya is currently testing the market. I am not sure when they will start selling at normal price, but if you really are a fan of MOW ice cream, you could probably stock some up!

Morinaga MOW Ice Cream

Sold at all Shojikoya outlets.

p/s: RM2 discount is only applicable to Shojikoya @ Citta Mall, Ara Damansara.

So after a long day of walking and sight-seeing in Malacca, especially during a hot, sunny day, a fresh, cooling coconut juice just sounds perfect! That’s when we got to pay a visit to the renown Klebang Coconut Shake stall. Yes, it is a road side stall that has not only attracted flocks of locals and tourists, but also media attention (RTM interviewed it before). Not to mention, it was also known for causing traffic jam along the road. Fortunately, the owner has cleverly adopted the idea of drive through service and built a proper dine-in area further in to ease the congestion.

What is so special about this coconut shake?? It is a perfect blend of coconut juice, coconut flesh and ice with a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice-cream. Sounds like an A&W root beer float, but the fresh coconut flavor gives such a good lift for the taste. The ice are crushed to a fine texture and the smooth vanilla ice cream adds just the right richness to the tropical boost! I think it is definitely worth the try if you have not, anyway it is cheap, easy to find and enjoyable!

A glass of regular Coconut Shake with single scoop vanilla ice-cream costs RM1.50, with double scoop vanilla costs RM2. Additional RM0.20 is charged for take-away.

All coconut juice and shakes are freshly prepared right in front of the customers.

At the dine-in area, customers could also enjoy some little bites.

This is the original road side stall, the sign indicates the way in to the eat-in area.

Klebang Coconut Shake

Along the main Jalan Klebang Besar, Melaka (next to Caltex Petrol Station)

Melaka or Malacca, this city has definitely leverage extensively on its acquisition of UNESCO World Heritage site status since 2008 with entrepreneurs and tourists alike charging up the tourism sector. As the city infrastructure improves, hotels and lodges boom significantly, so does the restaurants!

We arrived in the evening and were recommended by Gus, our ever hospitable tour guide and Knocknock Home‘s host to try out AK 47, a home cooked Thai restaurant. It took us just a couple minutes of walks from the guest house to reach the restaurant. It was empty when we reached there, but just when our food was about to serve, the place was filled with customers and the restaurant owner did something somewhat absurd and astonishing. He quickly put up the ‘Close’ sign and said jovially that that was all they would serve for the night. Apparently his wife is the only chef and by limiting the number of customers, they have sensibly avoided any blunder, and managed to pull off every dishes consistently without having customers annoyed by long waiting. As a result, everyone is happy

The restaurant oozes old school charm with all the 70s collection. On a quiet night like this, Melaka sinks immediately into a nostalgic mood.

Soda from the 70s?

Mango Salad full of sour and spicy boost to enliven the appetite!

A simple fried egg that reminds us of mum’s cooking.

This Tomyam fires like the AK 47, red, hot and spicy! There is strong scent of lemongrass that blends in so well with the sweetness of the seafood.

Sambal Prawn. Taste a little sweet compared to its counterparts – sambal petai prawns. But it sort of introduces another kind of spiciness to the meal, which is a good thing.

This meal cost merely RM30. You will love the food if you enjoy spicy! The restaurant is cosy, the food is great, just give a call before you come to avoid disappointment.

On a side note, there is Night Market along Jalan Hang Jebat (NOT Jonker Street) every Friday and Saturday, this is my favorite pick among dozens of stalls.

Hainanese Mochi! Well, whether it originates from Hainan or not, that is how the name of the stall suggests. This one located right outside the Hainanese Association 海南会馆(琼州会馆).

For the seafood lovers, South Sea Seafood restaurant is a must visit place. It has been around for about two decades with the well-known legacy of the master chef, Mr.Wong that is now passing on to his sons. This what used to be a modest restaurant was already good to begin with, but now it is even better transformed into an extraordinaire seafood dining scene.

This was how South Sea began. Presently, with the initiative and genius creativity of Mr. Wong’s sons, Terrence and Wilson, it now has an extreme makeover to please both taste buds and eye sights.

All alive and kicking’ up till the very moment it is prepared for enjoyment. They do have impressive stocks of premium and regular range seafood.

Steamed Grouper. The light soy sauce gives an appetizing flavor to elevate the fresh, natural sweetness of the fish without any hint of gaminess.

Sheung Tong Lala (Clams with Broth). The broth hits the tongue with a spicy zest following a light flavor of wine which goes a fine finishing to the dish.

My favorite!! Crabs! It is done with fried salted egg yolk with rich and succulent meat. We ordered the local crabs, there are also other kinds such as Sri Lanka crabs, Snow Crabs, to name a few. Minimum order is 2 crabs.

Stir fried broccoli with mushrooms.

The price is really not that steep compares to many other seafood restaurants with similar settings, and here I would say the quality is consistent at the same time fabulous.

My recent return to live in Sunway was welcomed by an exciting coffee house brand, yes, Café Barbera! Since they made their debut in Bangsar, it has always topped my list of chill-out venues for its exemplary coffee, great food, desserts and cozy ambience. Café Barbera has successfully established its high reputation as coffee connoisseur for 140 years and still counting! Thankfully with the industry growth (and perhaps globalization), we are now able to savor the authentic Italian coffee just as we were sitting at the café by the medieval cobblestone street in Rome.

What’s more exciting is the BUY 1 FREE 1 Promotion going on now until 31st March!! This means you can double up the varieties for the price of one! What are you waiting for?

Double Toasted Latté. One of the top choices among diners.

Cappuccino Napoletana. Light bodied but full flavored coffee.

Smoked Duck Pizza. With the chef’s recommendation, we gave it a go only to have it soon become our favorite pizza flavor.

Pesto, Cheese and Mushroom pizza. We anticipated for some rich, slimy cheese but there was not. Good thing is the pizzas contain only minimal salt which is healthier for a few more munches.

Coffees range from RM8 to RM12 and the food are generally priced fairly. They also offer pastries and selections of desserts with Tiramisu as house specialty. In case you read too fast and have missed this, Cafe Barbera is now having Buy 1 Free 1 deal, so go check it out!

Feeling our spicey craving hanging unfulfilled at the previous restaurant, we headed to Agneey’s Cuisine to get a second round of Indian fix. Situated in the middle of a residential area, it does not have the most strategic location, yet the crowds that patronize here everyday are abundant.

I have been here many times, and not one meal had let us down. In fact, I would miss the taste whenever I leave the city for too long. They offer Northern and Southern Indian cuisine, banana leaf rice and varieties of dosas and pratas.

Pour in the fish and chicken curries, both our stomach and taste buds would be filled with satisfaction.

Chicken Varuval (Dry) packed with the richness of spices.

Eat it while hot and feel the warm cheese melt in your mouth with the Naan.

Mutton Keema (Minced). Minced mutton slowly cooked over low flame. Thick, spicy, delectable. Compliments the earthy Romali bread.

Look kind of like table-cloth, taste wheaty. Best go with Mutton Keema.

Chapati wrapped with Mutton Keema and some Dhal make a delicious combination.

Herbs-rich Masala Tea to wash down the acidity with a minty zest.

Although Johor Bahru and Singapore are just a causeway apart, the former seems to lack exquisite western gourmet when it comes to choice of food. However, this scene would not stay for long as I experience for myself the increasing gastro-delights that can be found right in this town.

Koco Loco offers a fabulous range of Spanish flavors that are sure to impressed! Staying true to their Catalonian origins, Chef Manel and his brother Dr. Eufemio are determined to serve the customers with the best ingredients and equipments that produce exemplary taste.

Among all is this imposing traditional Espresso Machine that resembled the first coffee machine invented by a French man, Louis Bernard Rabaut in 1822. This machine uses steam to force hot water to ground coffee. The coffee beans are entirely home-roasted to a shiny state with the coffee essence readily to be retrieved.

The baker’s factory!

Every pastries, even the ice cream sold here are made passionately by Chef Manel and his assistants.

Sopa de Calabaza. Koco Loco’s very own Saffron infused pumpkin soup. Velvety smooth texture, thick and rich on its own without any cream or heavy seasoning.

Sanfaina. Stir fried zucchini, eggplant and bell peppers with white wine that has the subtle sweetness of vegetables burst into a savory dish. A good tapas to fill our stomach with before the paella comes!

Paella Valenciana. Minimum for 2. The grains are cooked to a perfect softness with very fresh seafood which induces a mouth-watering impact.

Coca al Huevo. Spanish flatbread baked with Mozarella cheese, eggs, tomato and chili oil. It has crispy and thin crust. A rare findings in the town and it tastes absolutely sinful!

Fideuà de Carne. Catalan short noodle specialty which claimed to come about when someone forgot about the rice. Contains chicken and sausage with green vegetables, peppers and peas. A special variation of traditional paella but a little dry (we were told that the authentic ones are even drier).

No wine is served at the moment as they are still in the process of applying license. We were given complimentary Spanish Sangria.

Exclusive dairy and non-dairy gelatos made to pamper the taste buds and watch the sensitive tummies!

Mr. Lopez’s zeal for Spanish culture was deeply felt and a tour around his restaurant confirmed that only premium ingredients are served to his customers. I vouch for the authentic and relishing meal.
